Jakarta (ANTARA) - US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Daniel J. Kritenbrink, will be visiting Jakarta, Indonesia, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from March 7–11, 2023.

During his visit, Assistant Secretary Kritenbrink will participate in the ASEAN-US Dialogue and the ASEAN East Asian Summit Senior Officials’ Meeting in Jakarta, according to a media statement released by the US State Department Spokesperson's Office, which was issued by the US Embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In Jakarta, the Assistant Secretary will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) and meet with the new Philippines Permanent Representative to ASEAN.

Kritenbrink will also meet with his counterparts in the Indonesian government to discuss the US-Indonesia Strategic Partnership and bilateral economic, security, climate, and energy initiatives.

In Kuala Lumpur, Kritenbrink will meet with senior Malaysian government officials to discuss strategic priorities and ways to expand the comprehensive partnership, including in the areas of law enforcement and counterterrorism cooperation, democracy and human rights, anti-corruption, combatting trafficking in persons, refugees, cybercrime, maritime security, as well as initiatives related to critical minerals, renewable energy, and biotechnology.

Earlier, during a meeting with US State Secretary Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi, India, on March 2, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi highlighted the importance of increasing cooperation between the United States and ASEAN during Indonesia's chairmanship of the grouping this year.

According to Blinken, this year is a good opportunity to compare notes on ASEAN and the very strong strategic partnership that Indonesia and the United States have in so many areas that are of mutual interest and concern.

At the meeting, Marsudi and Blinken discussed several security challenges in the region, including the ongoing crisis in Myanmar.
