Indonesia is ready to become the main partner for the development of the halal business in KyotoKyoto, Japan (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin held a bilateral meeting with Kyoto Governor Takatoshi Nishiwaki at Kyoto Guest House, Kyoto, Japan, Wednesday, during which they engaged in multifaceted discussions covering economic cooperation and Indonesians' protection, among others.
While delivering his remarks, Amin stated that the close relationship between Indonesia and Japan is reflected in the several forms of partnership forged between the two countries, one of which is the active cooperation between Yogyakarta Province and Kyoto Prefecture since 1985.
"The sister province cooperation between Yogyakarta and Kyoto has gone well through exchanges in culture and education," he noted in Kyoto, Japan, Wednesday.
Amin remarked that several people from the two countries have gained cross-country experiences through those exchanges.
"There are more than 1,300 Indonesians who live in Kyoto. Most of them are students and apprentices," he added.
On that occasion, the vice president brought up two important points that became the main agenda of his working visit to Japan, with the first being efforts to intensify economic cooperation.
"Indonesia is ready to become the main partner for the development of the halal business in Kyoto," he remarked.
He explained that development of the halal business could be conducted through cooperation for halal certification for Japanese products, such as foods, beverages, and medicines.
"I hope the cooperation would continue to be strengthened with other potential sectors, such as the trade of superior commodities, agriculture, and food security," he stated.
The second point of focus concerns the protection of Indonesians. Amin lauded the commitment of the Government of Kyoto Prefecture, which has, so far, provided services and ensured protection for Indonesians in Kyoto.
"I hope the Government of Kyoto Prefecture would continue to support the Indonesian Government's efforts in providing optimal and excellent protection and services to Indonesians abroad," he remarked.
At Wednesday's meeting, Governor Nishiwaki congratulated Indonesia on the success of its G20 presidency in 2022.
"I think Indonesia has succeeded in being the chair of G20," he remarked.
He expressed optimism that a meeting between President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss the Asia Zero Emission initiative could be carried out and realized.
At the end of the meeting, the two figures exchanged souvenirs. Vice President Amin received a Kyoto folding fan from the governor, while Governor Nishiwaki received a framed plaque of Borobudur Temple from the vice president.
