"We see a lot of growing government technology, which helps the government serve the community better," the ministry's coordinator for digital startups Sonny Hendra Sudaryana said here on Thursday.
There are many ministries that are open to collaborating with startups, such as the Health Ministry with its Digital Transformation Office, he added.
According to him, a bigger collaboration between startups and public service providers is awaited because Indonesia's digital infrastructure is increasingly capable, supported by the naional digital transformation acceleration program.
The digital infrastructure includes 550 thousand kilometers of fiber optic cables to strengthen the nation's Internet quality and the construction of 4G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in far-to-reach areas.
Sudaryana said that the vision of public service providers to shift from the traditional system to a more digitized system requires collaboration between the government and startups.
One of the successful e-government systems that have been developed under collaboration between the two is the COVID-19 tracking app PeduliLindungi.
"From there, health data is more open, that the government and ministries have been more open. So startups that used to be hindered by regulation and access are now more facilitated," he explained.
President Joko Widodo has also encouraged the e-gov system, as stated in Presidential Regulation No. 95 of 2018 concerning electronic-based government systems (SPBE).
To support the growth of startups in Indonesia, the Communication and Information Ministry is implementing the Startup Studio Indonesia (SSI) program, which provides space for early-stage startup founders to get training to build relationships with public service providers.
The ministry said that it is open to organizing discussions between SSI alumni and other government parties so that they can collaborate and improve public services for the community.
