"We encourage this exhibition on automotive and lifestyle to promote significant growth of the automotive industry," the minister noted in his speech at the opening of the event.
He opined that the growth of the national automotive industry was better compared to that of previous years.
In January 2023, car sales grew by nearly 12 percent compared to January 2022.
In 2022, the production of four-wheeled vehicles reached 1,048,040 units, an increase by 18 percent compared to the previous year.
The export of completely built-up (CBU) vehicles reached 473 thousand units and capped up at almost 600 thousand units if coupled with the number of completely knocked down (CKD) vehicles.
The minister commended the manufacturers of vehicles and relevant associations for their efforts in developing the automotive industry.
"Production capacity has gone up by a great rate. Let us give a round of applause, including for the contribution from the government for the sales tax on luxury goods policy," he noted.
Hartarto also remarked that in 2022, domestic sales of two-wheeled vehicles reached approximately 5.2 million units and exports reached 743 thousand units, resulting in a total production of nearly 6 million units.
The government is pursuing efforts to bring about eco-friendly energy, for instance, through the biodiesel B35 policy and incentive for the purchase of electric vehicles.
"The facility is prioritized for motorcycles first, with two-wheeled vehicles to get Rp7 million (US$452) subsidy per unit, for (the purchases of) 200 thousand new units, and for the conversion of 50 thousand units," he noted.
The exhibition showcased more than 60 automotive brands and comprised passenger vehicles, premium vehicles, commercial vehicles, and supporting industries.
The exhibition, themed "Automotive x Lifestyle," aims to clock transactions worth Rp2.3 trillion (US$149 million) and is projected to bring some 53 thousand visitors.
