Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin urged relevant stakeholders to commit to pursuing climate-resilient development programs during the 2023 National Lush Village Day in Riau on Monday.

"I expect all stakeholders to be fully committed to pursuing Development Agenda Number 6 of the 2020-2024 Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), which pertains to climate-resilient development programs," he stated in a press statement.

He said this commitment is necessary to meet the national emission reduction target, both through the state's own capability and with assistance from other countries.

The first measure to achieve this goal is to formulate an effective and efficient allocation of village funds, he added.

"In particular, I urge ministries, institutions, regional governments, and village governments to collaborate in the accountable, fully integrated management of village funds," Amin noted.

The formulated programs must develop human resources, so they will have the capability to continue the progress towards achieving the goal, he pointed out.

The vice president urged regional governments to expedite green investment for villages to fulfill basic needs, establish facilities, reduce extreme poverty, and suppress the stunting rate.

This investment can also generate jobs and allow for alternative sources of income for the locals.

"If this can be realized, the development of remote areas can be deemed successful," he emphasized.

Amin reminded that climate change is a matter of concern for all. Hence, efforts to address it must begin with small steps taken by individuals, for which they are responsible.

"The solution can start with small steps that every individual can take. Change can only be made after awareness has been fostered, leading to an initiative," he concluded.
