Praya, Central Lombok (ANTARA) - Flights via Lombok International Airport, West Nusa Tenggara, which neighbors Bali, will remain open during the Hindu holy seclusion day, Nyepi, on March 22–23, 2023.

"Lombok Airport will remain operational (during Nyepi Day)," Lombok Airport Spokesperson Arif Haryanto said here on Monday. The airport is run by state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I)

During the commemoration of Nyepi Day, Bali Airport will not serve flights starting from 6 a.m. local time on March 22 to 6 a.m. on March 23, he noted.

With the closure of Bali Airport, flight routes between Lombok and Bali will be closed, despite six flights from Lombok to Bali, five Wings Air flights, and a Citilink flight scheduled on those days.

"Last week, there were seven thousand passengers per day that arrived and departed at Lombok Airport ahead of the Ramadan month," he informed.

Earlier, passenger movement at Lombok International Airport increased by 15.4 percent during the 2023 World Superbike (WSBK) motorbike racing event held at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit from March 3–5.

"The number of passengers arriving and departing from Lombok Airport during the WSBK week from March 1–6 was recorded at 39,450 passengers or the daily average of 6,575 passengers," General Manager of Angkasa Pura I - Lombok Airport Rahmat Adil Indrawan reported.

That figure reflected an increase of 15.4 percent compared to the passenger movement in February 2023, when the average number of daily passengers reached 5,700.

During WSBK 2022, the average number of daily passengers was recorded at 6,120, or an eight-percent increase from normal days.

Meanwhile, aircraft movements at Lombok Airport recorded an increase of 6.5 percent during the 2023 WSBK implementation.

There were 395 aircraft movements or 66 aircraft arriving/departing per day on average between March 1–6 compared to 62 aircraft movements in February.
