"The Surabaya Public Order Security Agency (Satpol PP) carries out the Cipta Kondisi Asuhan Rembulan Operation from Monday to Sunday. However, there is a regular large-scale operation with joint personnel for Friday and Saturday evenings," Chief of Surabaya Satpol PP Eddy Christijanto said here on Sunday.
He said the joint personnel had carried out a large-scale operation from Friday evening (March 24) to Sunday morning.
According to him, the large-scale operation was carried out at the beginning of Ramadhan because there were some minors who started to do things that could disturb public security and order, such as the sarung (sarong) war between groups.
Christijanto explained that the operation was divided into four regions, namely the east, west, south, and north. Similar operations were also carried out in 31 sub-districts throughout the city.
On Saturday (March 25) evening, the team dispatched at least 400 personnel from Satpol PP, the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the Transportation Office, the military, the police, and the garrison unit, he said.
Meanwhile, at the sub-district level, the team involved the local police and the sub-district military, in which 30 personnel were placed per sub-district.
"There were 930 personnel at the sub-district level. In total, thousands moved simultaneously," he added.
The operation began at 11 p.m. local time, anticipating the disturbing activities that usually started at 12 p.m. and ended at 3:30 a.m., he said.
"There are several points that we concentrate on, especially border points," he explained.
He said all residents can enter the city of Surabaya, but his team will take anticipatory and control efforts against risks of riots and other disturbances.
"Let's keep Surabaya city safe and peaceful," he said.
