Some 90 buses will depart on April 9 to 20 districts and citiesSurabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The East Java Provincial Government has prepared 161 free buses to facilitate residents keen on visiting their hometowns to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri.
"The registration (for the free buses) is by attaching (a copy of the) national identity card, family identity card, and proof of booster vaccination," East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated here on Tuesday.
Residents looking to seize the opportunity of the free bus service for Eid exodus can register through the province's transportation office on the Mudik Gratis 2023 webpage from March 27 to April 10.
The free buses will depart for various regions in East Java starting from April 9 from the provincial transportation office on Ahmad Yani Street, Surabaya.
"Some 90 buses will depart on April 9 to 20 districts and cities," Parawansa remarked.
The free buses for the Eid exodus program will serve the routes of Surabaya-Madiun, Surabaya-Magetan, Surabaya-Ponorogo, Surabaya-Nganjuk, Surabaya-Tulungagung, Surabaya-Blitar, Surabaya-Trenggalek, Surabaya-Bondowoso, and Surabaya-Pacitan.
Moreover, the free buses for homecoming serve residents looking to travel through the Surabaya-Jember, Surabaya-Malang-Blitar, Surabaya-Banyuwangi, Surabaya-Ngawi, Surabaya-Tuban, Surabaya-Sumenep, and Surabaya-Bojonegoro routes.
In addition, the governor revealed that the provincial government has also prepared free exodus transportation for East Java's residents living and working in the capital city of Jakarta.
"We have 34 buses in Jakarta, of which 20 buses will depart on April 18 from the East Java Pavilion at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta, to East Java. We also prepared 14 buses for the return flow," she remarked.
The East Java provincial government has also readied a freight service for motorbikes to reduce traffic congestion on toll roads during the Eid exodus.
"We accommodate people, who want to bring their motorbikes home, so we prepare 400 vehicles to transport (motorcycles) to reduce congestion," she remarked.
The freight vehicles to transport the travelers' motorcycles are scheduled to depart from the provincial transportation office in Surabaya City to Madiun, Ponorogo, Trenggalek, Tulungagung, Jember, and Banyuwangi on April 18.
