"We will hold it on April 14–15 at Gedung Sate by all the (provincial) offices. Hopefully, the prices can be cheaper than those in the markets. This Ramadan cheap market is for the public," the office's head, Noneng Komara Nengsih, informed here on Wednesday.
Nengsih said that the Ramadan cheap market operation is aimed at helping residents affected by the inflation in the prices of staple commodities during the holy month of Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
"To help people affected by price increases. The supply is actually enough, but because of the large demand, the price has increased," she explained.
Some staple food ingredients such as beef, chicken, rice, cooking oil, and sugar will be sold during the Ramadan cheap market operation, she added.
“(The operation will cover) All commodities, especially staples such as rice, vegetable oil, sugar, and fish, which is the most consumed ahead of Eid," she said.
Earlier, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said that the provincial government has prepared a budget of Rp10 billion (US$670 thousand) for cheap market operations during the holy month of Ramadan this year.
“(The budget prepared for) the market operation is around Rp10 billion. We visit the points where there has been a significant increase," he informed after reviewing the prices of staples at Kiaracondong Market, Bandung city, on Tuesday (March 28).
Based on the results of the inspection conducted at Kiaracondong Market, Bandung city, the prices of several basic necessities, such as rice, chilies, and vegetables, have increased, he added.
He said the West Java provincial government has prepared three strategies for stabilizing the prices of basic necessities during Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr, including the cheap market operation.
