Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali Transportation Office is seeking to make Ubud, Gianyar District, the second location for the electric vehicle (EV) policy implementation after the Pura Agung Besakih grand temple in Karangasem.

"We are still working on this (EV implementation at Pura Agung Besakih), and it is still being prepared for Ubud and later, it will be connected to the public transportation system," Head of the Bali Transportation Office IGW Samsi Gunarta informed here on Saturday.

The provision of EVs at tourist attractions will not only be limited to buses or public transportation modes, he added.

For instance, he said, at Pura Agung Besakih, the largest temple in Bali, EVs have been prepared to take visitors from the parking lot to the temple's front.

Conventional vehicles are not allowed to operate on the 1-km road connecting the parking lot to the temple front.

The EV trial at the temple has coincided with the grand ceremony of Ida Bhatara Turun Kabeh, which lasts for 21 days, he informed.

The trial results will be apparent during the ceremony activities, Gunarta said.

"We do this step by step, by preparing Besakih as the model. Service in Besakih has started using e-vehicles for visitors, with six units of shuttles. This number will increase," he informed.

The Bali Transportation Office is targeting to implement EV use in 5 tourist areas in Bali, including Ubud, Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur, and Nusa Penida, by 2026.

EV operation in the five areas is currently being designed, he said.

"People start to use e-bikes in Sanur. It has been arranged there. This model is quite interesting, where we can limit gasoline vehicles," he explained.

To support EV infrastructure, EV charging stations have been prepared in almost all districts and cities, he said.

The availability of charging stations must be in accordance with the number of operating EVs, he added.
