Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Minister Teten Masduki is targeting to issue at least 10 million business identification numbers (NIBs) in 2023.

Based on the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, as of April 4, 2023, as many as 3,731,047 NIBs have been issued, which account for just 5.8 percent of the total micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) players in Indonesia, he said.

"Accelerating the formal transformation of micro-enterprises is needed in order to improve the current economic structure. We are targeting a minimum of 10 million NIBs to be issued this year," he informed in an official statement released here on Tuesday.

According to him, there are several joint targets that can be achieved through the NIB issuance, including the target of providing People's Business Credit (KUR) to 7.1 million businesses. This is because, once MSMEs obtain NIBs, it would be easier for them to access KUR.

The issuance of NIBs also has to potential to empower 12.7 million customers of state-run microlender PT Permodalan Nasional Madani's (PNM's) PNM Mekaar program.

In addition, 4.3 million merchants in marketplaces as well as 249 State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Houses could assist the MSMEs regarding the issuance of NIBs.

"To reach the potential target of 10 million, it requires the oss.go.id system's readiness in accommodating the number of registrant SMEs. In addition, the Micro Business Formal Transformation Movement needs to be carried out massively through multi-party synergy and collaboration for assistance facilities,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, in relation to halal certification, Masduki said that the government is targeting to make Indonesia a halal industry center by 2024 as well as a global center for Muslim fashion.

"The potential must be optimized, not only as the main target market but also the center of the world's halal producers," he remarked.

His ministry has continued to fully support the one million halal certification program along with the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) by improving synergy to enhance the production capacity of halal food and beverage products.
