… TOD housing concept offers convenience for millennial housing. If they buy it, they get a train as well because the location is close to the commuter line (KRL) station...
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked that millennial housing be constructed using the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) approach in other cities with high-intensity traffic, besides Jakarta and its surroundings.

"I have ordered the related parties to build TOD housing concept in other regions outside Jakarta and its surroundings, especially in cities with high traffic jam intensity," he informed while inaugurating millennial housing in Depok, West Java, on Thursday.

The integrated millennial residence in Margonda area, Depok, has very nice rooms, the head of state said. The residence is also equipped with adequate supporting facilities.

"Most importantly, this TOD housing concept offers convenience for millennial housing. If they buy it, they get a train as well because the location is close to the commuter line (KRL) station. It is very easy to go anywhere," he added.

Given the proximity of the housing to the KRL line, the millennial generation can let go of their dependence on private vehicle use and help reduce congestion, especially in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), he noted.

According to the President, the millennial housing in Depok is affordable, with subsidized housing available at around Rp200 million under the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) and non-subsidized housing priced at around Rp300 million to Rp500 million.

"The installments are also cheap, so it is a very suitable housing for young people or the millennial generation," Widodo said.

On the same occasion, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir said that urban areas would become increasingly packed and cause challenges related to regulating transportation and housing for the community.

"As many as 58 percent of Indonesia's population is under 40 years old, and there are 81 million millennials with different statuses with no house. Therefore, the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry will coordinate with SOEs in Indonesia such as Perumnas, Adhi Karya, and KAI regarding this matter," he added.
