Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government on Monday dispatched 284 buses carrying aboard 13,541 Eid al-Fitr exodus travelers, under the free Eid exodus program, to 19 cities and districts in six provinces.

"There were 284 buses, with a total of 13,451 passengers, that were dispatched today for the exodus flow," Head of the Jakarta Transportation Office, Syafrin Liputo, remarked here on Monday.

Moreover, two buses were provided for travelers with disabilities under the free Eid exodus program.

"Two buses for disabled people from the Jakarta National Alms Agency (Baznas) were also dispatched by the acting governor today," Liputo remarked.

Meanwhile, some 216 buses, carrying 10,624 travelers, will be dispatched for the return flow.

Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono on Monday dispatched the 284 free exodus buses at the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta.

"Goodbye, have a safe homecoming trip for residents, who travel today," he remarked.

Hartono also urged travelers to take care of their physical health and exercise patience during the trip.

The Jakarta Raya Military Regional Commander, Major General Mohamad Hasan, and Greater Jakarta Police Chief, Inspector General Karyoto, were present at the event.

Meanwhile, before departure, the Greater Jakarta Police and the Jakarta Provincial Government had conducted health exams on the bus drivers.

Karyoto said that the drivers' health condition will affect the trips' safety.

"The safety depends on the drivers in operating the buses," he stated.

Karyoto said his side and the provincial government had checked the health of bus drivers, including their blood sugar level and blood alcohol content.

"If (the blood sugar level or blood alcohol content) is high, then a backup driver must be provided," he remarked.

Karyoto said his side has readied several personnel to help secure the free Eid exodus program.

"We dispatch personnel from the headquarters' level to the local police station to ensure the smooth implementation, until at the destination," he remarked.
