In a press release received on Tuesday, BSKDN Head Yusharto Huntoyungo said that his agency is aiming to become an institution that has a strong relationship with regions and supports them in obtaining information about the scope of research.
The research will include both pure science research and research for the purpose of producing policies, he added while chairing the Meeting on Study and Research Collaboration Plan that the BSKDN, BRIN, and regional governments' representatives joined here on Tuesday.
Huntoyungo explained that the collaboration could be carried out with the initial step taken by BRIN, namely by directing Regional Research and Innovation Agencies (BRIDA). He noted that almost half of the total regions in Indonesia are currently forming BRIDAs.
According to him, BRIDAs can monitor local potential in their respective regions.
"For example, in a region that is rich in potential for sago, how do we develop sago? What should be the policy related to sago? The policy should be data-based. We collect this information from the region, then discuss which one is included in science (research) and which one is included in research for policy," he explained.
He further said that after BRIDA maps the empirical issues of a region, BSKDN will pass on the information to BRIN for further research. In the research, BRIN could also involve universities to study empirical issues jointly, he added.
The BSKDN head stated that his agency is committed to continuing to serve as a liaison for regions to get research partners who can meet the needs of their respective regions.
"Do not let regions make wrong policies due to not based on evidence. In this case, the evidence is research or study results. Thus, we must try to find and try to link one region with various other institutions," he added.
