Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Archdiocese (KAJ) along with all Catholics wished Eid Mubarak 1444 Hijriah to all Muslims in the country.

"Together with Catholics in the Jakarta Archdiocese, I, Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, sincerely wish a happy 1 Shawwal 1444 Hijriah to our Muslim friends," KAJ Bishop Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo stated in Jakarta, Saturday.

Cardinal Suharyo is optimistic that the rewards and blessings during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr would reach the entire nation and universe.

Meanwhile, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin urged the public to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1 Shawwal 1444 Hijriah while maintaining order, solidarity, and unity.

"On this special occasion, I would like to convey a number of messages. First, in welcoming Eid Al-Fitr, it should be carried out solemnly while maintaining order, solidarity, and unity," he remarked at the National Takbir Akbar event at the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, Friday.

On Thursday (April 20), the Ministry of Religious Affairs decided 1 Shawwal 1444 Hijri or Eid al-Fitr 2023 AD to fall on Saturday.

The decision was taken following an isbat (confirmation) meeting on Thursday, April 20.

"Based on a hisab (astronomical observation), the position of the crescent moon in Indonesia is above the horizon and does not meet the new MABIMS (the Association of the Ministries of the Religious Affairs from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore) criteria, as well as the absence of seeing the crescent moon. The isbat meeting determined that 1 Shawwal 1444 H falls on Saturday, April 22, 2023," Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas confirmed.

In addition, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, appealed to all Muslims to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in simplicity.

"All Muslims do not need to show who is the most victorious. Let us celebrate Eid al-Fitr in simplicity and welcome it with joy," Effendy stated after the Eid prayer at the Muhammadiyah Central Executive (PP) Building in Jakarta, Friday.
