There are still eight more months because the cooperation lasts for a year or 12 monthsJakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani oversaw the departure of 200 Indonesian migrant workers (PMIs) to South Korea from here on Monday.
The workers were sent to South Korea under a government-to-government (G-to-G) cooperation program to mark International Workers' Day or May Day.
Since January 2023, Indonesia has sent 4,632 migrant workers to South Korea under a G-to-G program for the fishery and manufacturing sector, he informed.
"There are still eight more months because the cooperation lasts for a year or 12 months," he said.
He further said he believes that the 2023 migrant worker placement target will reach 11,545, or higher than the figure in 2022.
There will be no compromise for illegal workers distributors or syndicates, he stressed, saying that he is ready to sound the war drum to protect the nation's foreign exchange heroes.
"Our commitment at BP2MI is to protect PMIs. We are ready to fight against illegal PMI placement mafia who sell the nation's children," he said.
He informed that thousands of migrant workers have been rescued by BP2MI before they could be sent off through nonprocedural or illegal routes by the mafia.
"My commitment ever since I was inaugurated by President Jokowi (Joko Widodo) is to protect PMIs from the tip of their hair to the tip of their feet," he remarked.
During the commemoration of International Workers' Day, Rhamdani said he expects that there will no longer be any discrimination against Indonesian workers, both domestically and overseas.
