Transformation will be non-existent without peace
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir affirmed that harmony is among the most essential foundations in the transformation of SOEs.

"Harmony is one of the keys included in the SOEs' core value - AKHLAK. Transformation will be non-existent without peace," Thohir remarked during the celebration of the Holy Day of Silence in Saka Year 1945 while attending the 2023 Dharma Santi BUMN in Sasono Utomo, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East Jakarta, Monday.

To survive through all kinds of dynamics, he emphasized that corporations, such as SOEs, should continue to transform. They should prepare themselves to transform with the reference of AKHLAK as their core values. Harmony is one of the vital keys of the core values.

Harmony is of essence in creating peaceful conditions. Today, peace has become more relevant at a time when the world is facing several wars, not only those raging in Ukraine but also in Sudan.

"We can see that the current global situation is tainted by wars, not only between Ukraine and Russia but also the one that recently broke out in Sudan. I think we all know what is the issue - difference," he stated.

The minister has continued to encourage SOEs to transform. However, he admitted that it would be very difficult if they had no harmony.

He outlined three spheres of harmony that should be strengthened in the SOEs environment, with one of them being interfaith harmony.

He emphasized that all religions, including Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, in SOEs should coexist.

"We keep promoting interfaith harmony,” he stated while making assurance.

Secondly, harmony between seniors and juniors in the work environment is crucial. Senior officers should not be constantly burdened with the duty of corporation leadership, as they have their limits. One day, everyone will eventually return to the Almighty.

"For that reason, we encourage young leadership, with 10 percent of the leaders being under 42 years old. Praise be to God, we have already achieved this," he revealed.

The final sphere concerns the level of harmony between genders. To this end, the minister is targeting for up to 25 percent of leadership spots in SOEs to be occupied by female officers. So far, the target is still seven percent away from being completely achieved.

"We keep promoting this for the sake of balance. It is known that men usually possess a very strong quality of leadership. However, we have to admit that women's leadership is no less important," he stressed.

"Women's leadership can be reflected in our childhood when we were raised by mothers. Women can lead with more empathy than men do,” he stated.
