"I condemn all forms of violence, including the recent shooting that occurred at the MUI office," he stated, according to a press statement issued by the ministry.
Violence cannot be justified, regardless of motive or purpose, he added.
Qoumas also commended the police's quick action in identifying the suspect, who was killed in the incident.
"I heard the suspect died (in the incident). I also believe that the police will be professional," he stated.
Meanwhile, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the shooting incident.
"The Vice President is concerned about the incident and has asked the security forces, especially the police, to closely investigate the incident," spokesperson for the Vice President, Masduki Baidlowi, stated when contacted by ANTARA on Tuesday.
The spokesperson informed that Amin was also concerned about the victims, adding that the Vice President may decide to pay them a visit later.
Earlier, Central Jakarta Police chief, Senior Commissioner Komaruddin, disclosed that the suspect in the shooting incident was a 60-year-old man identified with the initial M.
"The suspect has been identified with the initial M, his age is around 60, and his ID card shows Lampung as his domicile," Komaruddin said.
The body of the suspect was taken to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, he informed.
The police chief added that the articles found in the suspect's bag included medicines, a bank account book, and letters.
