Jakarta (ANTARA) - Significant differences in indoor-outdoor temperatures at Phnom Penh are a serious concern for the Indonesian badminton team, Head of Coaching and Achievement at the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) Rionny Mainaky has said.

The Indonesian badminton team is in Cambodia for the 32nd SEA Games, where, according to Mainaky, the temperatures are very hot outside, but the indoor arena is very cold.

"The athletes have to get used to the weather here. It is very hot outside, but is cold indoors. They must take care of their condition, concentration, and focus," he said here on Thursday.

Significant temperature differences could affect the endurance and stamina of athletes in Phnom Penh, he added.

This situation was observed when Indonesia's Garuda Squad underwent its first training session at Morodok Techo Badminton Hall. The national badminton team tried three courts at once during the session.

Mainaky said that he was quite satisfied with the training results. Movement and control are going well, and the athletes are all healthy and have experienced no injuries, he added.

"Technically, (the athletes) must adapt to the shuttlecock as it is light," he said.

Related to this year's SEA Games, PBSI praised the event’s implementation, ranging from the arena, accommodation, and other supporting facilities.

Although some aspects were said to be not ready, Mainaky said that the arena and the athletes' village did not disappoint.

"They prepared a shuttle bus from the athletes' village to the venue even though it was a short distance. This helped us a lot because we did not have to walk in the scorching hot weather. Not to forget the modern gym equipment. Although earlier it was said not ready, it did not disappoint," he added.
