"In the first stage, we are working on the roads from the Ratu Plaza vicinity to the Bank of Indonesia junction," Jakarta acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono said in a written statement, here, Sunday.
He affirmed that the government had conducted a first hand inspection on the repair works in front of Ratu Plaza building on Jenderal Sudirman Road in Central Jakarta, on Saturday (May 6) at 11.30 p.m Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB).
He said the work will resume in the following week to repair several other roads.
The acting governor said that the repair was being conducted in hopes of providing a higher level sense of comfort to the ASEAN Summit's delegates during their stay in the capital city.
During his inspection, Hartono was accompanied by the Acting Head of Jakarta Highways Office (Bina Marga) Heru Suwondo and its officials who will supervise the repair of the roads stretching along Gatot Subroto to M. T. Haryono areas.
The repair was also a follow up to complaints received from local residents.
"We have also received complaints regarding the condition of the roads. Therefore, the Bina Marga Office will be working on repair on a number of roads, starting from this year until the next year of 2024," he said.
Previously, the South Jakarta Government had polished canteens around the ASEAN Secretariat Building in order to welcome the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
"Apart from those around the building, we have also repainted the curbs on a number of roads, namely Sisingamangaraja Road, Trunojoyo Road, Pattimura Road, and Raden Patah Road," a local sub-district official Murniasih said in a written statement on Wednesday (May 3).
The 42nd ASEAN Summit will be held in May and September this year in Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara Province) and Jakarta respectively.
