Sumadi made the statement in response to results of a public evaluation survey on the handling of the 2023 Eid homecoming conducted by the Indikator survey agency, which showed that public satisfaction with the organizing of the 2023 Eid homecoming had reached 78 percent, an increase as compared to 73 percent in 2022.
"The surge in homecoming travelers that we have predicted will occur this year can be anticipated properly. Thanks to the good cooperation and coordination of all parties involved from the preparation to the implementation," he noted in a statement in Jakarta, Monday.
Sumadi lauded several parties involved and had supported the smooth implementation of the 2023 Eid homecoming: Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), National Police (Polri), Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry, Communication and Informatics Ministry, and Health Ministry.
In addition, he thanked the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ministry of Home Affairs, local governments, Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC), transportation operators, toll road operators, associations, media, and other related elements.
"Thank you to the people, who have cooperatively followed the transportation regulations in an orderly manner. They helped to meet the expectations of a safe and memorable homecoming," he remarked.
However, he drew attention to various evaluations, including at crucial points, such as the Trans Java Toll Road and the Merak-Bakauheni Ferry Port.
"Next year's homecoming will be more challenging because the public's interest in going home will be higher, and people's expectations for the smooth flow of homecoming will also be higher," he remarked.
Earlier, his ministry noted that the number of public transport passengers during the 2023 Eid homecoming and return flow had increased by 12.98 percent as compared to that recorded in 2022. Meanwhile, the total number of vehicles during the homecoming and returning traffic had increased by 6.1 percent as compared to 2022.
Based on results of the same survey, public satisfaction with the organizing of homecoming among homecomers was much higher, reaching 89.5 percent.
Most people were satisfied with the traffic control conditions during the 2023 Eid homecoming and return flow, reaching 81.8 percent; followed by public transportation, 73.4 percent; availability of fuel, 71.8 percent; and road conditions, 64.3 percent.
Furthermore, the movement of 132-134 million people was recorded during the 2023 Eid homecoming, or not much different from 123.8 million people estimated in a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation.
