Phnom Penh, Cambodia (ANTARA) - Indonesia's athletes have managed to collect 69 gold medals at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia as of Sunday, meeting the target set by President Joko Widodo for them.

The 69 gold medals placed Indonesia in third place in the temporary medal standings.

In a statement, the Indonesian team's Chef de Mission (CdM) at the SEA Games, Lexyndo Hakim, said that he felt grateful and relieved over the temporary results.

However, he urged the remaining competing athletes to remain focused on increasing Indonesia's medal achievement.

"Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), this has already surpassed the gold achievement at the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam. There are still two days left, and the final round of several sports branches will be held," he noted.

Indonesia won 69 gold medals at the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, which concluded on May 23, 2022.

Hakim said that the team's confidence has increased and it is becoming easier for them to breathe.

"Let us focus on finishing this Cambodian 2023 SEA Games by winning even more medals," he said.

Hakim added that 69 is not just a number but proof of the entire team and athletes' dedication to promoting their country.

The Indonesian team is currently in third place in the temporary medal standings with 69 gold, 60 silver, and 80 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Thailand is second with 90 gold, 64 silver, and 86 bronze medals. Vietnam is at the top with 99 gold, 86 silver, and 94 bronze medals.

Indonesia's 69th gold medal was won by swimmer Janis Rosalita Suprianto in the women's 200m finswimming surface.
