Pekanbaru (ANTARA) - The Riau Provincial Government is exploring educational cooperation with the Petronas Technology University (UTP) related to higher education within the limits of authority, funding, technical capabilities, as well as research, development, and student capacity building.

"For this reason, the Riau Provincial Government will prepare a selection for Riau children, who have the competence to be sent to UTP Malaysia. The Riau Provincial Government will also provide scholarships for them to study in the neighboring country," Governor of Riau Syamsuar noted in a statement in Pekanbaru, Monday.

To follow up on the collaboration, they will discuss the existing programs in detail along with the Riau Education Provincial Office. His side will focus on engineering, information technology, and science programs, in the hopes that students from Riau, who study at UTP Malaysia, can immediately work at Petronas.

"Hence, after our children have studied at UTP Malaysia, we hope that our children will immediately be able to work professionally at Petronas," he stated.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic of UTP Malaysia Dr Hilmi said that his side will soon cooperate with the Riau Provincial Government to recruit students from Riau to study in Malaysia.

"We will make a selection of Riau students to study at our place," he remarked.

UTP Malaysia was founded in 1997 and has grown to become one of the leading private universities in Malaysia. UTP offers a range of industry-relevant engineering science and technology programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to produce well-rounded graduates, with sound leadership qualities and communication skills.

UTP is the first and only private university in Malaysia to be awarded a five-star rating at the QS StarsTM University Rating System. This ranking is based on the best universities in the world that are less than 50 years old.
