The duo also met to discuss renewable energy investment.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Investment Office, here on Wednesday, with British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste Owen Jenkins and several officials of the Ministry of Investment in attendance.
The Indonesian Government seeks to invite investors from abroad to develop the industry in Indonesia, facilitate export of their products, and maintain the environment, he noted through a statement on Wednesday.
He said the government is keen to highlight that downstreaming is implemented through a green principle to achieve net zero emissions (NZE). Moreover, he offered to combine technology from Britain with raw materials from Indonesia.
Indonesia has vast potential, in terms of abundant raw materials, to support the electric car battery industry and renewable energy development.
The Indonesian Government encourages downstreaming of mineral resources that continues to prioritize the concept of eco-friendliness and use of renewable energy.
Meanwhile, Ghani welcomed Lahadalia's idea and expressed her readiness to connect British companies to help Indonesia in downstreaming. Moreover, Britain needs support in terms of investment in the mining sector.
The British Government seeks to diversify raw materials for critical mineral resources, especially those used for solar panel and electric car battery development, said Ghani who is also Minister of State for the Investment Security Unit, and Minister for Industry and Economic Security.
The British Government supports policies undertaken by Indonesia and is ready to help Indonesia, in terms of technology, to achieve the NZE target by complying with environmental standards, she stated.
Critical mineral is a mineral vital to support technological developments in pursuit of obtaining cleaner energy in future. This mineral can be used for the development of electric vehicles and for other purposes.
The Indonesian and British Governments agreed to further discuss cooperation in the use of new technologies for renewable energy development to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and NZE target of Indonesia.
These steps not only boost economic relations between Indonesia and Britain, but they also strengthen the two countries' position on the global stage.
