The vice president’s remarks were delivered during the ministerial-level meeting on cross-sectoral strategic coordination on youth service and Presidential Regulation No. 43 of 2022 regulating it at the Vice Presidential Palace here, Tuesday.
“First, our Youth Development Index in 2020 was (recorded at) 51 percent, which declined from the 2019 score of 52.8 percent. Despite the slight decline caused by the pandemic, we must catch up with our losses since our 2020-2024 RPJMN (National Middle-term Development Plan) targets the level at 57.67 percent by 2024,” Amin stated.
The vice president pressed to take into account the index related to the five domains of education, welfare and health, job opportunities, participation and leadership, and gender and discrimination.
Citing the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, Amin noted that 65.82 million residents, or equivalent to 24 percent of the total Indonesian population, are classified as young in the age bracket of 16 to 30 years.
However, the National Workforce Survey in August 2022 showed that the open unemployment rate among the youth had reached 13.93 percent, thereby translating to the fact that 14 out of every 100 young members of the workforce are not working.
“The central and regional authorities should be mindful of this condition. We need strategic measures from the ministries and institutions to empower all potentials either by improving youth services activities, synchronization, and programs and researches on youth activities and other breakthroughs,” Amin explained.
The vice president also called on government institution leaders to report their preparedness and commitment to supporting cross-sectoral strategic coordination of youth service organizations for the 2023-2024 period.
“Hence, I urge Coordinating Minister (Muhadjir Effendy) to report the coordination result, in general, and Youth and Sports Minister (Dito Ariotedjo) to explain about the implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 43 of 2022,” he remarked.
