Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) Nurhadi has asked the government to remove officials suspected of being involved in human trafficking through the mode of sending undocumented Indonesian workers abroad.

In a statement released on Friday, he said that he approved of the restructuring of the human trafficking crime task force so that it is filled with people who carry out the task of eradicating human trafficking with integrity and credibility.

"I agree for the restructuring of the human trafficking crime task force to be carried out soon. Of course, those who fill the positions (should be) new people who have integrity, credibility, and are capable, firm, and courageous in resolving this problem down to its roots," he added.

Nurhadi said that effective coordination needs to be built between the Ministry of Manpower, the Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Protection Agency (BP2MI), the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and law enforcement officials to prevent human trafficking.

It is important for the government to carry out massive dissemination of information so that people become more aware of the legal procedures for getting work abroad, he added.

"Because many victims of human trafficking are people in regions who lack dissemination of information from the government," he said.

Earlier, BP2MI head Benny Rhamdani stated that human trafficking syndicates tend to send undocumented Indonesian workers abroad on tourist visas, pilgrimage visas, and Umrah visas.

The BP2MI has revealed the names of five human trafficking dealers to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD.

Their syndicates are strongly suspected of being the ones who are placing Indonesian workers in Malaysia and Singapore via Batam, Riau Islands.
