“The partnership between Indonesia and the UK must continue to lead to strong and sustainable growth,” the minister noted at King Charles III’s Birthday Reception as quoted from an official statement on Wednesday.
“To achieve this goal, we must continue to strengthen our two-way partnership, sustainable trade, and green investment,” he affirmed.
Indonesia and the UK are working together on a transition program towards environmentally friendly energy and reducing deforestation through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
JETP is the foundation for Indonesia to launch a Comprehensive Investment Plan worth US$20 billion to promote a greener electricity transition.
Indonesia and the UK have also formed a Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) in 2022 that agreed on the need to negotiate on renewable energy, green growth, food, beverages, and agriculture.
Minister Hartarto is upbeat that bilateral trade between both parties would increase again and become wider through the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
He noted that in 2022, the UK had nearly doubled the realization of foreign direct investment in Indonesia as compared to the previous year, to US$628.3 million.
"I really believe that the partnership between Indonesia and the UK will be able to reach new levels and be profitable for both of our countries," he affirmed.
