Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is encouraging directors of mining companies to actively participate and engage with stakeholders in order to develop good mining practices.

In a statement received on Friday, the ministry's Director of Engineering and Environment for Mineral and Coal, Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi, stated that one example of the synergy that can be achieved by company directors is providing full support for chief engineers to implement good mining practices, including effective management of safety.

He made these remarks during a discussion between the Mineral and Coal Directorate General and directors of mining companies in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, which took place in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung Islands on Wednesday.

He said that there is still room for improvement in mining safety management in the Bangka Belitung Islands.

Therefore, he encouraged stakeholders from mining companies to collaborate and jointly implement the mining safety programs that have been developed.

"Mining workers must be committed to carrying out their tasks in accordance with the applicable standards, norms, and rules," he stated.

He emphasized that workplace safety is not solely the responsibility of one person, but a shared responsibility among all personnel.

Furthermore, as government officials, mining inspectors have a crucial role in providing guidance and conducting supervision on mining safety management, which is a mandatory aspect of implementing good mining practices.

Amir Syahbana, the Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources Office of the Bangka Belitung Islands, commended the ministry for organizing the meeting, as it serves as a driving force for the implementation of good mining practices in the province.

He acknowledged that the extensive activities related to mineral resource management have a direct impact on regional economic growth.

However, he also highlighted the potential risks of work accidents and environmental degradation.

Therefore, he expressed hope that the implementation of good mining practices can be achieved through shared responsibility between the central and regional governments, as well as mining industry players.
