Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has declared a commitment to making the 2024 presidential, parliamentary, and regional elections become a human rights friendly event to ensure that all citizens can exercise their voting rights.

"In this declaration, Komnas HAM pays special attention to those belonging to the marginalized and vulnerable groups," the rights body's head, Atnike Nova Sigiro, said here Sunday.

She emphasized that all citizens possess equal rights while noting that there are, however, individuals and groups that have not yet obtained equal access to a fair and free festival.of democracy.

"With that in mind, Komnas HAM would like to invite not only election committees, but also political parties and the public to ensure that none of our brothers and sisters are being left behind in the festival of democracy," she said.

Sigiro also reiterated that the commission is striving to uphold certain rights during elections, namely the right to participate in government administration, right to vote and to be voted. and the right to obtain equal access to public services.

Therefore, Komnas HAM invites all parties to work in synergy to hold the 2024 elections based on the principles of being direct, free, confidential, honest, and fair (LUBER JURDIL), while exerting efforts to guarantee the fulfillment of human rights of all citizens, especially those belonging to the marginalized and vulnerable groups.

To this end, Komnas HAM, General Elections Committee (KPU), General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and political parties echoed four points of Human Rights-Friendly General Elections: 1. To guarantee the voting right fulfillment of marginalized and vulnerable groups;

2. To guarantee an inclusive election access to marginalized and vulnerable groups;

3. To make the 2024 General Elections and Regional Head Elections free from discrimination, violence, and injustice.

4. To make the 2024 General Elections and Regional Head Elections free from hoaxes, slanders, and hate speeches.

The declaration serves as proof of the parties' commitment to ensuring that the elections will be held by guaranteeing the values of freedom and fairness, while respecting human rights principles.

Furthermore, the declaration is also expected to encourage parties to hold the elections in a genuine manner, so that the elections' results genuinely reflect the nation's true voice, as well as push for the efforts to handle and eliminate practices of discrimination against the marginalized and vulnerable groups.
