Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Semuel Pangerapan is aiming to complete and inaugurate the national data center (PDN) in Bekasi, West Java, by October 2024.

"The one in Batam is expected to be completed by 2025," he said during an opinion hearing meeting of the Data Leak Work Committee of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) here, which was streamed on Monday.

The development of the national data center in Batam is currently in the tender process.

Meanwhile, data centers in two other regions—the new state capital in East Kalimantan and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara—are still in the planning stage.

"We are still analyzing the land in IKN, the same as in Labuan Bajo," he said during the opinion hearing meeting.

The construction of the national data center is part of the government's program to prepare facilities to implement an electronic-based government system (SPBE), which is expected to support the realization of Indonesia One Data to support national interests.

The development of the national data center is also being undertaken for ensuring a more efficient government.

"Our dream is making Indonesia One Data a reality because all of the data is connected and the country can manage these data well and can produce information needed to create policies," Pangerapan explained.

The government is preparing to issue a ministerial regulation on the national data center, including its safety standard, in coordination and collaboration with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN).

Moreover, in relation to the national data center’s construction, the government is facing a challenge due to a lack of understanding concerning cloud computing in regions.

Thus, the government has deemed the provision of knowledge related to cloud computing through trainings in regions to be necessary.
