"Today, we witnessed AirNav Indonesia engaging in collaboration with Boeing to improve Indonesia's air navigation services to the global level," Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said in a statement released here on Monday.
He attended a ceremony for the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between AirNav Indonesia and Boeing.
According to the minister, the MoU combines Boeing's technical capabilities with the Indonesian government's initiatives in airspace management, training, and air traffic control strategic planning.
"Boeing and AirNav Indonesia will work closely with the Transportation Ministry's Directorate General of Air Transport, airlines, airport operators, and other stakeholders in Indonesia's aviation industry," he added.
Meanwhile, AirNav Indonesia's President Director Polana B. Pramesti said the company's focus will be on ensuring the highest level of safety in the national airspace system and supporting the growth of the national aviation industry.
"Airspace capacity and air traffic management are areas of common interest for Boeing and AirNav Indonesia, and a natural space where we need to cooperate. We are looking forward to working with Boeing," Pramesti said.
The cooperation aims to pursue various initiatives in air navigation and safety, as well as improving aircraft movement to reduce fuel consumption.
Pramesti emphasized that a world-class air traffic management system is crucial for developing Indonesia's aviation industry and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Mike Sinnett, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Product Development at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed his company's support for Indonesia's efforts to advance its civil aviation industry.
Sinnett said that working with AirNav Indonesia would allow both parties to explore lasting solutions that enhance Indonesia's air traffic management system in a safe and sustainable manner.
"With its emerging market economy, Indonesia is home to one of the largest aviation markets in Asia," Sinnett added.
