Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has warned ministers and heads of state institutions to carefully manage state finances because the national budget is both huge and complex.

"I have repeatedly emphasized the need to be cautious in managing state finances because what we handle at the ministry level is immense. This must be monitored, controlled, and thoroughly checked," he stated during a visit to the Menteng Pulo Market in Jakarta on Thursday.

"I have repeatedly asked (for scrutiny of the budget utilization), even the minutest details," he added.

He made this statement in response to a question about the alleged corruption case at the Ministry of Agriculture, which is currently being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

However, he was reluctant to comment further on the case.

"You should ask the law enforcement officials," he replied.

Jokowi reiterated that the investigation of suspected corruption cases falls within the purview of the law and is handled by law enforcement officials.

Therefore, he hoped that any queries regarding the investigation processes would be directed to the law enforcement officials themselves.

"Whose responsibility is it? If it pertains to law enforcement, then ask the law enforcement officials, not me," he added.

The KPK has initiated an investigation into the alleged corruption case at the ministry, confirmed Asep Guntur Rahayu, the acting deputy enforcement and execution at the KPK, on Tuesday.

"Currently, the KPK is conducting an investigation into allegations of corruption at the Ministry of Agriculture," he stated.

He also refrained from providing further information about the case, stating that it is still under investigation.

"Yes, it is still in the process of investigation. Unfortunately, we cannot disclose any information at this time," he said.

Ali Fikri, the head of the reporting section of the KPK, confirmed that the KPK has interrogated several parties in connection with the alleged corruption.

"To date, what we know is that the investigation is underway, and we are in the process of gathering information from various parties regarding the alleged corruption at the Ministry of Agriculture," he explained.

Ali stated that the case originated from a public report and was subsequently pursued through an investigation by the KPK.
