Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is seeking five direct flights from India, Australia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam in cooperation with AirAsia to boost the number of foreign tourists.

These additional flights would include flights from Kolkata and Chennai in India, Perth in Australia, Kuching in Malaysia, and Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei Darussalam, said Minister Sandiaga Uno during the Weekly Brief event streamed on Monday.

He added that he would ask the CEO of AirAsia Group, Tony Fernandes, to invest in Indonesia's five super-priority tourism destinations (DPSPs) and 10 special economic zones (KEKs).

Fernandes has previously expressed his interest in opening more direct flights to Indonesia. He said that his company seeks to show the world that Indonesia has much more to offer besides Bali.

He also expressed interest in investing in hotels to support Indonesia's vast tourism potential. Through this investment, Indonesia can become a country with significant potential in the tourism sector, he added.

During a discussion with several overseas and domestic investors on June 14, Minister Uno highlighted inputs regarding direct flights from within and outside the country to priority destinations, including Sanur and Kura-kura in Bali.
