Hopefully, the culinary center can become a new economic center and encourage economic growth of the people in Garut District and its surrounding area.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Ministry established a Fish Culinary Center in Tarogong Village, Garut District, West Java Province, to support the Gemarikan Program that aims to increase fish consumption in the community.

"We built the Fish Culinary Center in Garut to encourage consumption of delicious fish dishes to increase healthy protein intake of the community,” Director General for Marine and Fishery Product Competitiveness Strengthening (PDSPKP) at the ministry Budi Sulistiyo remarked.

The facility is also expected to become a new culinary tourism destination to bolster local economic activities, as Tarogong Village is known as a hard-lipped barb (Osteochilus vittatus) cultivation center, he noted, as quoted from a press release on Thursday.

"We hope the Fish Culinary Center will be able to facilitate people to enjoy various fish culinary delights," Sulistiyo remarked.

Director for Marketing of the Directorate General for PDSPKP at the KKP Ministry Erwin Dwiyana expressed optimism that the manager of the culinary center would be able to draw several youngsters to visit the place.

He said that the attempt aims to increase fish consumption among young people, so Indonesia will have healthy, strong, and intelligent young generations in future.

Head of Garut District Rudy Gunawan lauded the KKP Ministry for the establishment of the culinary center.

He noted that the district has myriad potentials, including in cultural, tourism, as well as culinary sectors, so the Fish Culinary Center is expected to be able to further optimize and develop the potentials in the region.

"Hopefully, the culinary center can become a new economic center and encourage economic growth of the people in Garut District and its surrounding area," he stated.

The Fish Culinary Center was inaugurated on June 27, 2023. The two-story building opens every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB/UTC+7).

The first floor of the facility serves as a freshwater fish market with 28 fish ponds. Visitors can enjoy various fish dishes on the second floor of the building.
