"Considering the significant number of millennial voters, the Yogyakarta KPU expects that they will not be apathetic in the general election later on," stated Ahmad Shidqi, the head of socialization, voter education, public participation, and human resources at Yogyakarta KPU, in Yogyakarta on Thursday.
According to a plenary meeting held on Tuesday, June 27, the Yogyakarta KPU has finalized the list of local voters for the 2024 election, which comprises 2,870,974 people. Among them, 1,473,875 are women and 1,397,099 are men.
Out of this figure, 432,568 are members of Gen Z, aged between 17 and 24 years, and 754,732 are millennials, aged between 25 and 39 years, he explained.
He also expects Gen Z and millennial voters to actively seek information about the general election while exercising their right to vote on election day.
He further noted that there are 11,932 polling places spread across 438 villages and 78 sub-districts.
Shidqi cited data from his administration, which showed that Sleman District has the largest number of voters, with 849,062 people registered as voters, along with 3,456 polling places spread across 86 villages and 17 sub-districts.
Bantul District has 742,074 registered voters, with 3,166 polling places distributed among 75 villages and 17 sub-districts.
Gunungkidul District has 613,155 registered voters, and the area has 2,709 polling places across 144 villages and 18 sub-districts.
Kulon Progo District has 345,038 registered voters and 1,302 polling places spread across 88 villages and 12 sub-districts.
Meanwhile, Yogyakarta City has 321,645 voters and 1,298 polling places in 45 villages and 14 sub-districts.
"This is only at the provincial level. On July 2, 2023, it will be determined at the national level, and afterwards, it will be published for the public. We will inform other stakeholders, particularly the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu)," he elaborated.
He highlighted the long period of time between the Yogyakarta voters' list being set up in June 2023 and the 2024 General Election on February 14, 2024.
"Hopefully, there will be no additions or changes anymore. There are some issues that we must address since the final voters' list is set right now, and the duration from its determination to the day of voting is very long," he concluded.
