Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) is ready to organize the second round of the 2024 Presidential Election, if necessary, Commissioner Mochammad Afifuddin affirmed.

"Yes, we are ready in all aspects, including logistics, budget, and others. KPU is ready for all scenarios, (and we will do) according to prevailing regulations," Afifuddin stated in South Tangerang, Banten, Wednesday.

The KPU has no preference for whether the election should be held in one or two rounds, as the agency's main focus is to ensure all aspects are conducted according to law, he explained.

The commissioner noted that the second round of the presidential election, if necessary, will take place in June. There will be no second round of legislative elections.

Meanwhile, Afifuddin remarked that the KPU awaits the completion of vote tabulation at the polling station level nationwide today before continuing to the next counting stage.

"The official result will be known through the conventional, manual tabulation organized in stages from the polling stations, continued to the sub-district, district, provincial, and national levels," Afifuddin stated.

"Based on the final result, we will consider and decide our next step," he affirmed.

More than 204 million Indonesian voters cast their ballot on February 14 to elect the president and vice president, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and regional legislatures (DPRD) at the provincial, city, and district levels.

The three candidate pairs vying for the national leadership in this year's election are Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar as candidate number one; Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as candidate number two; and Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD as candidate number three.

According to KPU Regulation No. 3 of 2022, the nationwide vote recapitulation for the 2024 Election is scheduled to take place from February 15 to March 20, 2024.
