Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) officially received the registration documents for Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as candidates for the 2024 presidential election.

The file was received directly by KPU Chairman, Hasyim Asy'ari, at the KPU office in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon.

"The KPU would like to express its gratitude for the presence of political parties' coalition that have registered prospective candidate pairs as scheduled for October 19-25, 2023," Asy'ari remarked.

He noted that files received by the KPU will be assessed as completed or incomplete. If the file is incomplete, the commission will give additional time for the candidate to complete the file.

"Based on information from the team at the KPU Secretary-General through the Candidate Information System (Silon) application, the candidacy requirements were declared complete," he remarked.

Furthermore, the registration file will enter the document verification stage with two results, namely correct or incorrect and valid or invalid. He noted that the presidential and vice presidential candidates would be given the opportunity to correct the invalid document.

In the next stage, the KPU will provide an introductory letter to the presidential and vice presidential candidates to carry out health checks. This health examination is related to their ability in carrying out duties as president and vice president, Asy'ari added.

The medical examination will take place at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, where Subianto-Raka are scheduled to visit on October 26, he stated.

Based on Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs must be proposed by political parties or coalition of political parties participating in the election that meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the number of House of Representatives (DPR) seats or obtaining 25 percent from valid votes nationally in the earlier DPR member elections.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament. Hence, the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair in the 2024 presidential election must have the support of a minimum of 115 seats in the DPR.

Candidate pairs can also be nominated by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 General Election, with a minimum total of 34,992,703 valid votes.
