Youngsters called it healing tourismJakarta (ANTARA) - Sustainable tourism has become the current tourism trend that draws both local and international tourists, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno told ANTARA in a special interview here, Monday.
From all types of promising tourism, from marine to megaliths tourism, all of them have become sustainability-oriented, with the conservation approach, especially for natural tourism, he noted.
Sustainable tourism is the development of the tourism concept that can provide long-term impact in terms of the social, cultural, economic, and environmental aspects.
Several tourists seek tourism destinations that prioritize sustainability, personal living, local living to vacation experiences with mental representation, the minister noted.
"Youngsters called it healing tourism," he remarked.
With this potential, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is aiming to have entrepreneurs manage various tourism objects in Indonesia in accordance with the market interest.
Collaboration between communities and ministries, academicians, and entrepreneurs has become the key strategy for successful tourism.
"The more entrepreneurs who manage, the greater the quality and sustainable impacts that Indonesian tourism can provide. I believe that the total of over 2,500 tourism management companies understand how we can encourage this special interest tourism," he remarked.
Every new infrastructure constructed in tourism objects should strive to prioritize the aspect of environmental sustainability. This effort is followed by the sustainable tourism standard certification led by the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Council, he noted.
"This tourism should also become the sector that provides sustainable economic impacts and green economy, so that this tourism activity can also help handle climate change issues," the minister explained.
The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on May 24, 2022, shows that Indonesia's ranking rose, from 44 to 32 in the world, beating Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
