Praya, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir on Sunday launched three tourism-supporting projects in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"Today, we visit the sustainable development in Mandalika that has been constructed," Thohir said at the Kuta Lane development site.

Thohir inaugurated the Hotel Pullman, Al-Hakim Mosque, and Kuta Line in the Mandalika SEZ.

Kuta Line provides access to the Mandalika Beach area from the parking area or Mandalika Bazaar.

"After completing the construction of the Mandalika Circuit, supporting facilities will continue to be developed," Thohir said.

According to him, the supporting projects in the Mandalika SEZ need to be continued.

Development in Mandalika was started by former President Soeharto and continued by former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, then optimized by the administration of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"Developing a tourism area requires a process and time," Minister Thohir commented.

Sports tourism is the development focus of the Mandalika SEZ, where, in addition to the existing motorcycle racing track, a horse race track and a golf course have been planned for construction.

"The plan is that restaurants and hotels will also continue to be built in the Mandalika SEZ," he said.

According to the minister, the development in Mandalika must be sustainable so that it can support ecosystems there.

"The development of the Mandalika SEZ must be beneficial for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) so that it can increase economic growth," he said.

Mandalika has become a venue for various international championships, among them MotoGP, Color Run Mandalika, Paragliding Accuracy World Competition, World Championship Exhibition, Indonesian Aero Sports Federation, Paragliding Prabu Flying Site, International Beach Volleyball, and Tour de Lombok.

Located in the southern part of Lombok Island, Mandalika was established as a Tourism Special Economic Zone through Government Regulation No. 52 of 2014.

The Mandalika SEZ is expected to accelerate the tourism potential of West Nusa Tenggara.
