"This initiative also makes Bank Mandiri the first bank to have digital carbon tracking, as well as issuing debit card and e-money prepaid card from recycled PVC plastic," the bank's president director, Darmawan Junaidi, said at the opening of the 2023 Mandiri ESG Festival, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The issuance of carbon tracking and cards made from recycled materials is part of the implementation of environment, social, and good governance (ESG) principles by Bank Mandiri through the pillars of sustainable operational activities.
Through digital carbon tracking, all stakeholders will be able to monitor the carbon produced and emissions reduced by the operational activities of Bank Mandiri in real-time, Junaidi informed.
The issuance of sustainable cards is also part of efforts made by the bank to help deal with plastic waste, which has become a serious problem in Indonesia.
To help create an ecosystem for electric vehicles, Bank Mandiri is also collaborating with its subsidiaries, Mandiri Tunas Finance and Mandiri Utama Finance, (EVs) to offer an EV feature on Livin' Sukha and EV promotion on Livin' Kopra till August 2023.
Bank Mandiri has also applied the pillar of sustainable banking by focusing on accelerating Indonesia's green economy through the development of sustainable financing and financial products.
It has issued the Sustainability Bond 2021, Green Bond 2023, and ESG Repo, and distributed the Green Loans and Sustainability Linked Loans, as well as ESG mutual-funds, which have been marketed through Livin' Investment since 2021.
Under the pillar of "Sustainable Beyond Banking," Bank Mandiri is seeking to build awareness on ESG among the bank's employees, customers, and stakeholders so that together, they can achieve zero carbon emissions by 2060.
