"The Islamic New Year has a deep meaning and inspires Muslims in Indonesia in living in the community and life of the nation," Dasuki stated during the 1445 Islamic New Year Celebration at the Istiqlal Mosque here on Wednesday.
The deputy minister affirmed that in the momentum presented by the Islamic New Year, there is a strong spirit to maintain sound relations between people and strengthen social ties in Indonesia's diverse society.
Through this celebration, he stated that Muslims in Indonesia can continue to strengthen the sense of unity, loyalty, and pride in the country's Islamic historical heritage.
"This celebration can connect people with the history and identity of Islam in Indonesia," he remarked.
During the celebration, he noted that all Muslims can reflect on the past, strengthen their beliefs, and take on the commitment to improving themselves in the new year.
According to Dasuki, Indonesia is like a "miniature of Medina," a country blessed with harmony and diversity as well as Islamic values that teach diversity, tolerance, justice, and compassion.
"The laying of the foundation of Islam in Medina is also based on religious tolerance," he remarked.
He expressed hope that all Muslims in Indonesia would learn about wisdom and imbibe values from this Islamic New Year.
Furthermore, the government will hold the Gebyar Muharram in the momentum of the 1445 Islamic New Year, on July 25-27, 2023, at the Religious Affairs Ministry's office in Jakarta.
The Ministry's Director of Islamic Religious Information Ahmad Zayadi stated that in celebrating the Islamic New Year, the ministry will hold assistance distribution to orphans, an Islamic art and culture performance show, and launch the Religious Moderation Village (KMB), and so on.
