South Lampung (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan visited Pasar Baru Bakauheni, South Lampung, Lampung, on Wednesday to review the condition of infrastructure in the traditional market.

The minister also conversed with vendors and visitors to gauge the prices of foods sold in the market.

Hasan said that based on his review, the prices of staple goods in the traditional market are still considerably stable.

"Thank God, until now, all stocks of staple goods are still sufficient, whether it is rice, eggs, chicken, everything is here," the minister highlighted.

He also urged the regional government to renovate the market without delay, saying the market looked shabby and its location disturbed the flow of traffic.

"If it looks shabby, what should be done? Which is why I come here to see, review. If it is possible to be relocated, I will develop it," he said.

The village chief of Bakauheni, Sukirno, said that the expected the Trade Minister's visit to bring some positive changes for both the vendors and people.

"My expectation as the village chief of Bakauheni is that with this visit from Mr. Minister, there will be a positive impact on Bakauheni and its market's development," he stated.

He informed that Bakauheni sub-district has two different markets; however, the market which is under the regional government's supervision does not see as many visitors as the other one.

"There are two markets here, Sir. One develops naturally, and another one is market belonging to the regional government. Throughout these times, we have difficulties (in managing) that old market, that one has been there for more than 20 years, it is abandoned," he said.

It is expected that the regional government will assist the vendors in operating the abandoned market, so that there would be more activities there, he added.
