The appeal was conveyed by a member of Central KPI in the broadcast content supervision sector, Aliyah Budianto. She urged TV and radio stations to maintain their commitment to protect women and children in their broadcast material.
"In whatever program it is, broadcasting agencies should not give space to perpetrators of violence against women and children," she said when contacted by ANTARA on Saturday (July 22).
Based on data released by the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan), at least 4,371 cases of violence were received by the commission in March 2023. Cases of domestic violence against women accounted for 30 percent of the total cases.

She expressed regret that some broadcasting agencies, especially television stations, are still giving airtime to public figures like singers or actors who have been known to perpetrate domestic violence.
"It is often found on TV broadcasts, but it does not mean there is no possibility that it also happens on radio," she said.
According to Budianto, there is a high chance that the presence of perpetrators on TV and radio programs could discourage victims to fight for their rights.
She hoped that broadcasting agencies would be wiser and broadcast educational content about gender equality so that cases of domestic violence can be reduced over time or even eliminated.
Apart from that, the KPI has also committed to collaborating with the relevant institutions, including the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection to increase child- and women-friendly content on broadcast media.
"We hope TV and radio could become women- and child-friendly spaces, including for women out there who still experience violence and injustice," she said.
