The crystal meth was destroyed by blending it with boiling water, while the marijuana was burned, as informed by the director of the Central Sulawesi Police's Narcotics Investigation Division, Sen. Coms. Dasmin Ginting.
Sixty bundles of imported second-hand clothing and 18 bundles of imported second-hand shoes that were confiscated from a resident recently were also burned along with the drugs, he said.
In connection with the seized crystal meth and marijuana that were destroyed, police investigators have named three people as suspects, he informed.
According to Ginting, at least 86,792 people were potentially saved from drug crimes and addiction due to the drug seizure.
"The police are committed to continuing drug crime prevention and law enforcement efforts," he added.
Earlier, ANTARA reported that a joint survey by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) pegged the number of drug users in Indonesia at over 3.4 million in 2019.
The survey, conducted in 34 provinces, indicated that about 180 out of every 10,000 Indonesians in the age group of 15 to 64 years were addicted to drugs.
The government is well aware of this alarming threat of drug abuse and addiction. Since his first leadership term, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has been reminding citizens of the grave impact of drug consumption on Indonesia.
