In an official statement received in Jakarta on Friday, Minister Sumadi said that the airport is projected to start serving regular commercial flights from October 2023. Hence, the ministry is currently making preparations to create an integrated transportation system to connect the airport with other regions.
To that end, the ministry's Directorate General of Land Transportation has been striving to integrate modes of transportation to link the airport with Bandung and Cirebon cities by providing buses and collaborating with travel agents.
"It will take about three to four months to prepare shelters for land transportation. Therefore, I have asked the West Java provincial government to discuss measures to create an integrated transportation route to link the Kertajati Airport with other cities and provinces," Sumadi informed.
West Java regional secretary Wangsaatmaja affirmed that the provincial government has established coordination with several land transportation service providers to fulfill the need for an integrated transportation system that can link the airport with cities in DKI Jakarta, West Java, and Central Java.
The preparations align with the discourse on transferring the operational activities of Husein Sastranegara Airport to Kertajati Airport, which is also planned to be executed in October.
The discussion on Thursday also served as a forum for talking about potential investors who have shown an interest in investing at the international airport.
In this context, the Transportation Ministry said that Kertajati Airport has appealed to a number of investors, including from India and Saudi Arabia, to participate in the development of the airport.
Moreover, the ministry has taken the initiative to carry out a number of business meetings to further explore investment opportunities by highlighting the public-private partnership scheme.
President director of PT West Java International Airport, Muhammad Singgih; director general of air transportation, Maria Kristi Endah; and president director of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, Muhammad Awaluddin, also joined Minister Sumadi and secretary Wangsaatmaja in the discussion.
