"Being responsible on the downstream side, we continue to prepare infrastructure and capability of the Pertamina Patra Niaga team to distribute SAF as an innovation for better aviation fuel for the aviation industry," Director of Marketing Center and Commerce at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Maya Kusmaya said here Thursday.
Kusmaya said that even though SAF is still in the trial stage, Pertamina Patra Niaga is committed to fully supporting its development.
SAF is being developed under a collaboration between the Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ministry of Transportation, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Indonesian Biofuel Producers Association (Aprobi), Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS), Lemigas, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Garuda Indonesia and Garuda Maintenance Facility, and Pertamina Group through Research & Technology Innovation (RTI), Pertamina International Refinery (KPI), and Pertamina Patra Niaga.
The initial commitment on Pertamina Patra Niaga's support was carried out through the receipt of around 80 thousand liters of SAF at the Soekarno Hatta Aviation Fuel Terminal & Hydrant Installation (SHAFTHI) from Cilacap in Central Java.
As per the initial target, the received SAF was used for a series of tests, and in the last one, 25 thousand liters of SAF was used for a static test on a CFM56-7B jet engine, which is commonly used in commercial aircraft, at GMF Aeroasia's Test Cell facility.
In an official statement, Kusmaya said that the SAF static test showed good results, with no significant difference in engine response in test results for Jet-A1 aviation fuel supplied by Pertamina Patra Niaga.
"Meaning, looking from the static test, the quality of the SAF is quite similar, then it can continue to the next test, starting from the ground test to the flight test. This is the latest milestone in the development of SAF considering that previous tests were only on military aircraft, we will start moving to commercial aircraft, and we are ready to provide SAF for the entire series of tests," she informed.
Kusmaya said that the distribution of SAF has also been included in the world agenda, where several airports in the world and airlines have used SAF.
"The move to distribute SAF is Pertamina Patra Niaga's step for providing better aviation fuel for the needs of the aviation industry in Indonesia. This will also be Pertamina Group's step in carrying out the energy transition program as well as achieving the net-zero emissions target in 2060," she added.
