"The surrounding area and public access need to be considered during the development. It is vain to have a house but far from public access to workplaces, let alone schools,"
Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has said that public housing development must be supported by adequate access to public facilities.

At a mass mortgage loan agreement event (Akad KPR Massal) here on Tuesday, he said that residential areas must be supported by schools, health facilities, and access to public transportation.

"The surrounding area and public access need to be considered during the development. It is vain to have a house but far from public access to workplaces, let alone schools," Thohir added.

He said that the central and regional governments have synergized to build ideal residential areas for the public.

The government is ensuring the availability of clean water, electricity, infrastructure, and public facilities in housing development, he added.

"We encourage (state-owned housing company) Perumnas to build an integrated area, not landed (houses), but multi-story buildings where sports areas, indoor swimming pools, health clinics, and recreation areas are provided," Thohir said.

He also asked the younger generation to purchase houses and invest in property.

According to him, a consumptive lifestyle can be focused on shopping that is more useful for the future.

"Some people buy houses at the age of 20 because they know this is an essential need. They save money and are able to buy a house and this is an investment," he said.

Meanwhile, the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry has launched the One Million House (PSR) program.

Based on data from the PUPR Ministry's Directorate of Public and Commercial Houses, at least 201,846 houses have been provided by the ministry to low-income families.

Meanwhile, other ministries/agencies have provided 5,711 houses, and local governments have assisted low-income households with 16,688 houses.

To realize the PSR target, cooperation across ministries and agencies is needed, the ministry stated.
