(It is) because the biggest (source of) pollution comes from vehicles
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin expressed the government's seriousness in tackling air pollution in Jakarta and buffer zones in Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) by continually encouraging people to use public transportation and electric vehicles.

"I think the government is serious about tackling air pollution in these areas. Apart from (encouraging) people to use public transportation, we are also encouraging them to use electric vehicles," the vice president told reporters here on Monday.

In addition, the vice president explained that the government is creating green open spaces to reduce vehicular pollution.

"(It is) because the biggest (source of) pollution comes from vehicles. We also continue to study things that might be even better," he affirmed.

President Joko Widodo, on Monday (Aug 14), held a special limited meeting to discuss air pollution in Jabodetabek.

President Widodo emphasized that the push for a hybrid work system was needed to reduce air pollution in such areas, which in the last week had been recorded in the very bad category.

"If needed, we must encourage many offices to implement hybrid working, work from office and work from home," Jokowi stated while starting a limited meeting on air pollution at the Merdeka Palace here on Monday.

"I do not know whether the agreement reached at this limited meeting allows for a working hour system of 7-5, 2-5, or in other figure," he noted further.

President Jokowi stated that the air quality in Jabodetabek over the past week was very bad.
