Hence, we have lost children's songs
Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - Chairperson of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), Ubaidillah, has urged TV and radio stations to increase the broadcasting frequency of child-friendly programs, whose airtime is currently witnessing a decline.

He cited the declining frequency of children's songs being played on national and regional TV and radio stations as an example.

"We can see numerous talent shows broadcast on TV, but they feature adult songs. Hence, we have lost children's songs," he said in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, on Monday.

He urged broadcasters to air more child-friendly content, noting that the programs aired by TV and radio stations in Indonesia are currently dominated by those that are not suitable for children's physical and psychological development.

An increase in the number of child-friendly broadcasts is expected to help TV and radio stations compete with other broadcasting platforms that are currently witnessing a rise in the era of digitalization, such as streaming over-the-top (OTT) platforms.

In principle, KPI will fully support TV and radio stations to improve their creativity so that they can produce more programs dedicated to children every year, he affirmed

"We should not let children lose interest in our TV and radio content. If necessary, produce child-friendly programs that can be taken as reference for other media," he stressed.

He also reminded broadcasting agencies to pay attention to the need for complying with the existing requirements in producing child-friendly content.

Before broadcasting content for children, broadcasters must ensure that their content abides by the provisions outlined in the Broadcasting Behavior Guidelines and Broadcasting Program Standards (P3SPS) and promotes the values upheld by the nation, such as decency, civility, and nationalism.

He then expressed the hope that all TV and radio stations in Indonesia will start exerting greater efforts to offer more child-friendly programs.

"Only a handful of TV (stations) are still broadcasting programs (made) for children. It is the shared responsibility of us and all related stakeholders to address this (issue)," he stated.
