Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir pushed for legal actions to be taken against an employee of state-run railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) arrested in connection with alleged terrorism activities.

"I have made a firm statement that terrorism is an evil thing. Therefore, we should enforce the law against it," he remarked at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Minister Thohir made the statement after attending the 2023 People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Annual Session and the Joint Session of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) and the House of Representatives (DPR).

Thohir also voiced his full support to KAI for its willingness to collaborate with the National Police (Polri) to deal with the issue.

"Of course, I fully support the measures taken by KAI," he remarked

Earlier, President Director of KAI Didiek Hartyanto commended Polri's anti-terror squad Special Detachment (Densus) 88 for its success in tracking and arresting the suspected terrorist, identified by his initials as DE, who worked as a railway shunter in the company.

"PT KAI supports the police and any legal processes. We will also continue coordinating with the law enforcer," Hartyanto told the media in Banyuwangi District, East Java, on Tuesday (August 15).

The president director also confirmed that the arrested suspect worked as a railway shunter at the Jakarta Kota Station, West Jakarta.

"We have also instructed all unit leaders to directly supervise their subordinates," he noted.

He remarked that in an effort to support counterterrorism efforts, his company has been working in synergy with the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) since 2018, with the cooperation agreement being renewed in September 2021.

"We have been cooperating with BNPT as an effort to prevent terrorism from plaguing any operational areas of the company. This (cooperation) aims to prevent (the spread of) radicalism," he affirmed.

Densus 88 raided and arrested DE at his residence in Bulak Sentul, North Bekasi Sub-district, Bekasi City, West Java, on Monday, August 14, 2023.
